Nickelodeon is an American pay television channel which was first tested in December 1, 1977 in Ohio, before launching nationwide on April 1, 1979, as the first children’s cable television channel. It was named as "C-3" until it was renamed as Nickelodeon in 1979.

Why They Used To Rock

  1. Children's television programming in its purest form.
  2. It was the major kids' channel that was launched in 1979, ten years of the success and the launch of the world's no. 1 preschool TV program, Sesame Street.
  3. Its catchy iconic jingle.
  4. It had Nickelodeon-exclusive cartoons, officially known as the Nicktoons, including SpongeBob SquarePants, The Loud House (and its spin-off series, The Casagrandes), The Fairly OddParents, Rugrats (the first major Nicktoon), Rocko's Modern Life, The Ren & Stimpy Show, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Danny Phantom, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, My Life as a Teenage Robot, and Catscratch.
  5. With the success of being "the first kids' network", Nickelodeon amazingly received magazines, audio CDs, audio cassettes, video games, clothing, comic books, theme parks, merchandises and of course, the theatrical feature films.
  6. The 1981, 1984 and the current 2009 logos are impressive.
  7. It had the preschool-oriented weekday-morning block, Nick Jr.. In 2009, Nick Jr. spawned into a 24-hour channel of the same name.
  8. At Universal Studios Florida, Nickelodeon had a Nicktoons-themed simulator ride, Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast, which was replaced by Despicable Me Minion Mayhem in 2011, since Despicable Me became an instant success in 2010.
  9. It had teen-oriented weekend-evening block, TeenNick, which shortly revived as a 24-hour network in 2009.
  10. From the early to mid-2000s, it spawned a CBS programming block, which was aired only on Saturday mornings.
  11. It had its Saturday evening block, SNICK, which Nickelodeon aired primetime shows for the first time.
  12. It had an adult-oriented programming block, Nick@Nite, which aired most of the recent adult sitcoms.
    • Nick@Nite originally aired reruns of the most popular TV programs of the 1950s, the 1960s and the 1970s, marked as "the world's very first all-classic-TV network".
  13. It recently had its brand of the shows that Nickelodeon formerly aired, under the name of NickRewind.
  14. It had its original game shows, starting with Double Dare in the Halloween of 1986 (not to be confused with the short-lived 1976-77 CBS game show with the same name).
  15. It had its Nick-exclusive slapstick-style sitcoms, including Hey Dude, Kenan & Kel, Welcome Freshmen, Clarissa Explains It All, iCarly, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Drake & Josh and All That.
  16. Back then, it preferred quality over quantity, as it actually cared about it’s viewers and didn’t just air SpongeBob reruns.
  17. It had lots of iconic bumpers, most notably the beloved “Not just cartoons.. we’re NickToons!” song bumper.
  18. Even after it’s downfall, it still had good shows such as Harvey Beaks, The Legend of Korra, Welcome to the Wayne, I Am Frankie and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
  19. It had the kiddie version of MTV, NickMusic.
  20. As the popularity of the major kids' channel goes on and on, it had its very own theatrical movie company.
    • It has released many great theatrical movies, including Dora and the Lost City of Gold and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.
    • It also released theatrical feature films, starring SpongeBob SquarePants.
  21. Lots of it’s shows spawned popular internet memes, and the network embraced it by making wonderful meme-based SpongeBob toys.
  22. It’s sister channel, Nick Jr, is nearly as memorable and popular and also had iconic shows, such as PAW Patrol.
  23. It’s other sister channel, TeenNick, caters to an older audience very well, and even has old NickToons.
  24. It had its very own television-taping company, Nickelodeon Studios, which was doubles as the original family attraction at Universal Studios Florida, but sadly it was closed on April 30, 2005.
  25. It had its 24-hour educational programming channel, Noggin.
    • During its first four years, it was joint venture between Nickelodeon and Sesame Workshop, as a network aimed to pre-teens, despite being aired less preschool-oriented shows, including the classical episodes of Sesame Street.
    • On April Fools' Day of 2002, due to its surprisingly low ratings, it quickly shifted its target demographic to preschool audience, this time at 6am to 6pm, while the nighttime block, The N, aired music videos, sitcoms, game shows, teen dramas and some Nicktoons, especially The Ren and Stimpy Show, towards to Nickelodeon's primarily-aimed audience.
    • On New Year's Eve of 2007, Noggin and The N split into both 24-hour channels.
    • In 2009, Noggin became the 24-hour Nick Jr. channel, while The N discontinued and TeenNick was revived as a 24-hour channel.
  26. It had its very own website, staring in 1996.
  27. The network's international versions are still very good to this very day.

Bad Qualities

  1. Nowadays, Nickelodeon has lost all care for anything that wasn’t SpongeBob, The Loud House, or The Casagrandes, and moved anything that didn’t get as many viewers as those three shows to die in the NickToons channel.
  2. The network has aired some bad or mediocre shows, such as Fred: The Show, Awesomeness TV, Nick Studio 10, Fanboy and Chum Chum, The Thundermans, Pig Goat Banana Cricket, Marvin Marvin, Wild Grinders, Breadwinners, Mr. Meaty, School of Rock, Planet Sheen, Sanjay & Craig, Danger Force, Side Hustle,The Loud House and Henry Danger.
  3. The network also had some terrible and poorly-made films like The Last Airbender (despite being a cult movie) and Barnyard (despite being a huge box office hit).
  4. Cyma Zarghami, the former president of Nickelodeon from 2006-2018, was pretty bad at doing her job as president.
  5. Nickelodeon Japan was closed down due to declining viewership on September 30th, 2009, and has not been heard from again until January 2018 when Nickelodeon became a paid subscription for the Japanese market.
  6. Ever since the premiere of Fanboy & Chum Chum in 2009, Nickelodeon has been going downhill ever since, though they have shown signs of improvement of later years (2016-Present).

Oh, how the mighty might've fallen. Wish people would care more for any other show than just SpongeBob, although the latter is, indeed, a good show.

Exactly. It’s also another reason why I spent a lot of time in this community network editing the Fairly OddParents-related stuff more as well as any article in general that are more peaceful and quieter.

BQ #1 that’s exactly what I’ve been saying. At least Cartoon Network never tends to milk shows, and no Teen Titans Go! does not count.

BQ#2, if I’m gonna be honest, Nickelodeon had always been doing that since 2002 onwards starting with Invader Zim.

The page is fine. It’s not like the Bella and the Bulldogs and The Haunted Hathaways articles on the Terrible TV Shows Wiki, as well as a majority of the articles on the Loathsome Characters Wiki and others in general.
