Samurai Sentai Shinkenger is the title of Toei Company's thirty-third entry in its long-running Super Sentai metaseries of Japanese tokusatsu television series. It premiered on February 15, 2009, the week following the finale of Engine Sentai Go-Onger, and ended on February 7, 2010.

Why It Rocks

  1. The Shinkengers are very likable and have very distinct personalities:
    • Takeru (ShinkenRed) and Kaoru (Princess ShinkenRed) being the leaders and the most serious of the team.
    • Ryuunosuke (ShinkenBlue) being the most dedicated yet uptight of the team.
    • Mako (ShinkenPink) being the caring big sister of the team.
    • Chiaki (ShinkenGreen) being the most rebellious hot-head of the team.
    • Kotoha (ShinkenYellow) being the clumsy and the kindest of the team.
    • And Genta (ShinkenGold) being both the smartest and comic relief of the team.
  2. Dokoku, Juuzo, and Akumaro are likable and intimidating villains.
  3. The opening theme is extremely catchy and will just pump your blood for every episode.
  4. Takeru revealing to be a kagemusha was executed very well.
  5. Takeru's final battle with Juzo was really emotional and badass.
  6. It teamed up with Tensou Sentai Goseiger, an amazing Super Sentai season.
  7. Great opening and ending themes.
  8. The concept of the show is very well executed.
  9. Dayu's backstory is really tragic and well handled.
  10. The finale was decent at best.

Bad Qualities

  1. Tanba (and on some occasions Genta and Ryunosuke) can be very annoying and obnoxious.
  2. It's the counterpart (Power Rangers Samurai) was not well received and marked the beginning of the downfall of its Power Rangers franchise.
  3. It came off of Engine Sentai Go-Onger, a flawed Super Sentai season (though the teamup was actually amazing)
  4. There are some bad episodes such the 14th episode and the 28th episode.
  5. It crossed over with Kamen Rider Decade, a terrible Kamen Rider season.
