Teen Titans is an animated series that aired on Cartoon Network from 2003 to 2006 and was based off the comic book series of the same name.

Plot

The show focused on the Teen Titans, five teenage superheroes that protect Jump City from various supervillains including the main antagonist Slade, whom Robin is obsessed with defeating.

Why It Rocks

  1. Very good animation with an anime-esque art style.
  2. Some episodes feature the theme song in Japanese.
  3. Each season focuses heavily on a specific Titan and their character development.
    • Season One focused on Robin and his obsession with defeating Slade.
    • Season Two focused on the temporary Titan Terra, whom Beast Boy falls in love with.
    • Season Three focused on Cyborg and his grudge against the H.I.V.E. leader, Brother Blood.
    • Season Four focused on Raven and her evil father, the demon god Trigon.
    • Season Five focused on Beast Boy and his maturing into a fine hero as a foe from his past resurfaces to destroy all young heroes.
    • The feature film, Trouble in Tokyo, focused on Starfire and her relationship with Robin as the Titans face off against a Japanese crime lord and the foe that's controlling him.
  4. Season Two and Season Four focused on two major Teen Titans comic arcs. Season Two was based on The Judas Contract, and Season Four was based on The Terror of Trigon.
  5. Offered a proper blend of humor and action.
  6. 65 episodes, plus a bonus episode that was online-only.
  7. Had several original villains made just for the show, such as Billy Numerous, Cinderblock, Control Freak and Red X.
  8. The Titans themselves get a lot of character development.
  9. The popularity of Raven in Teen Titans brought her so much new popularity that DC resurrected her in the comics.
  10. It spawned a 2019 direct-to-video feature film, featuring the 2003 and the 2013 counterparts of the Titans.
  11. Slade is arguably one of the most terrifying villains in cartoon history.
  12. Some of the villains are rather likable, especially Jinx, who eventually turned good in the final season.
  13. A game was made based off of it and it was decent.
  14. It's responsible for introducing Cheshire's now-iconic cat mask.
  15. Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo, the TV movie and the true series finale, is amazing.

Bad Qualities

  1. The series' cancellation left a lot of things unresolved such as the true identity of Red X, who was responsible for the toxin in Slade's mask and how Terra came back from the dead.
  2. Characters can be idiots at some parts, and lack the deeper characterization from the comics but not as bad as Teen Titans Go!
  3. The character designs hadn't age well.
  4. Out of all the main characters, Starfire never got a whole season focused on her, the Trouble in Tokyo movie notwithstanding.
  5. The show was made lighter than than most DC Animated Universe shows (despite being on its own universe) to be suited for a younger audience (like Static Shock), but lacked the nuance of those other adaptations as a result. Villains often had sympathetic motivations removed in order to not appeal to kids (a notable example being Slade, who in the comics, had a grudge against the Titans for the death of his son).
  6. The last episode, "Things Change", was an incredibly bad series finale, due to it concluding nothing, and some there are some plotholes not solved.

Reception

Teen Titans was one of Cartoon Network's most loved shows, with its animation style and character development. It spawned its own comic book series, feature film and video games. Even years after its cancellation, fans still seek a sixth season.

Trivia

  • When the theme song is played in Japanese, it usually means the episode will be light-hearted.
  • The theme song was sung by the Japanese pop duo Puffy AmiYumi in both English and Japanese.

I like this show but its fandom is very toxic as they keep on spam on stuff related to TTG like "I miss original Teen Titans" which gets annoying.

The fucking spin-off is overhated as shit! Like, seriously, they treat the fucking spin-off like it's fucking Satan and treat this show like it's Jesus or some crap!

This series got cancelled because of the stupid 65th Episode rule that was made in many cartoons. And now Cartoon Network is obsessed with the brainwashed reboot and used to air it 24/7. At least it falling down and people are no longer freaking out about it.

As I don't like the reboot, I never saw the show as it wasn't on streaming and cable until HBO Max, one of my services was released on May 2020.

It was originally going to end at 52 episodes (4 seasons), but [Teen Titans] became so popular that it got another season. In some countries, however, the OG Teen Titans had 4 seasons.

Yeah, and also TTG has more than 250 episodes and it has no sign of stopping. At least it's a tad better in season 5 afterwards.
