Black★Rock Shooter is a 2012 supernatural fantasy anime television series produced by studio, Ordet, and Sanzigen providing the computer animations. Originally gonna be a direct sequel and follow up to the Original Video Animation of the same name (which is in turn inspired by the song of the same name by the Japanese J-pop band Supercell), but was assumed to be reworked as a complete reboot.
Why It Rocks
- It is an improvement to the OVA, despite it's a new story rather than a continuation.
- Despite being assumed to be a complete reboot of the series, It does try the best to avoid the Magical Girl aspects because it had nothing to do with the series.
- It feels much like a fantasy isekai series but no one got reincarnated, just two worlds with their 2 counterparts
- Solid fan favorite voice acting, such as Hana Kanazawa as Mato Kuroi/Black Rock Shooter/Insane Black Rock Shooter, Miyuki Sawashiro as Yomi Takanashi, Eri Kitamura as Kagari Izuriha, Mamiko Noto as Saya Irino, Kana Asumi as Yu Kotari/ Strength and Manami Nakamura as Arata Kohata/one of the hooded figures.
- The characters have fair share of unique traits:
- Black★Rock Shooter is a compelling character that does fit in this series since her name was in the title of the media franchise. She is also a lone fighter.
- Dead Master is the master of the dead who controls it.
- Black Gold Saw is the devil, who creates people.
- Chariot is like a living doll who wants to "go away".
- Strength is something much of a muscle.
- Arata's other self and the hooded figures are lonely, yet fearful beings.
- Insane Black Rock Shooter is an emotionless girl that cares no less than killing others similar Michael Myers from Halloween.
- Great action scenes.
- Yu Kotari's backstory was sad.
- Badass moments like Black Rock Shooter transforming her Rock Cannon into a gattling gun.
- It has a more manga-like feel.
- It has some imagination and originality which takes lessons from The Adventures Of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, A Monster Calls, and I Kill Giants.
- Insane Black Rock Shooter is very an awesome looking villainess with his armor design.
- A dark story that does differently to further avoid other dark magical girl series like Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
- The series gives some imagination and creative things.
- The character designs are an improvement and are especially beautiful and nice to look at.
- It shows a take on pain and how it affects the victims in the real world.
- It's like Puella Magi Madoka Magica but without Kyubey, or Madoka.
Bad Qualities
- Consiting of 8 episodes can be unnessary which could have been 13 or 12 of them.
- However, Black Gold Saw didnt have much swordfighting possibly due to time constraints.
- The story can be mixed and confusing, but can be poorly executed.
- Animation errors are still here.
- Some little of the plot holes and unanswered questions are still here:
- How can other worlds exist?
- How did both Black★Rock Shooter and otherworld's inhabitants were born?
- And how did Saya Irino knew about otherworld and its inhabitants?
