Chloe

Chloe's Closet is a British animated children's series produced by Splash Entertainment (formerly known as MoonScoop Entertainment). The series is mainly aimed for children ages 2 to 7 years old. This show follows the fun-filled adventures of an adorable, imaginative little girl named Chloe who discovers magical new worlds while playing dress-up in her closet. With each new costume Chloe tries on, she is swept up in a fantastical journey with her best friend and constant companion, her security blanket named Lovely Carrot. Chloe’s exploits also encourage the audience to celebrate how delightful it is to be a little kid embarking upon a fabulously fun and fearless, anything-can-happen journey.

The show originally premiered in the United States on PBS Kids Sprout on July 12, 2010, and later aired in the United Kingdom on Mini CITV and Cartoonito in 2011.

Plot

This animated series features the adventures of 4-year-old Chloe with her friends and toys. The group goes on magical adventures in Chloe's closet (hence the show's title). Being a children's show, the episodes aim to teach kids lessons about such topics as friends, cooperation and sharing. Chloe's friends include best friend Jet, Tara, Daniela (nicknamed "Danny"), Riley, Lil and Lil's younger brother, Mac.

Why It's Dress Up Time

  1. Cute, colorful, and amazing designs.
  2. Fantastic adorable songs.
  3. There are likable and adorable characters like Chloe, Jet, Tara, Carys, Danny, Lil, and Mac.
  4. Amazing plots.
  5. The series uses a good blend of animation styles. The characters and Chloe's bedroom are animated in 2D flash animation, while the world beyond the closet is animated in 3D CGI animation, sometimes with cel-shading.
  6. A good range of episodes from both seasons, which includes:
    • Bump in the Night (Which started the series on a high note)
    • The Color Pink
    • A New Way To Play
    • Catch of the Day
    • Princess Party (Which ended the series on a high note)
  7. Super educational, as it helps the viewers learn about math skills, music, the solar system, industries, and even hospital treatment.
  8. Tons of voice actors who voiced characters, such as Eleanor and Anna Webster, Paul Tylak, Oisín Kearns, and Siobhán Ní Thuairisg.
  9. Many gags are really funny for kids, like the dress-up jokes, although the sketch formula is repetitive.
  10. Some catchphrases are cute such as:
    • "Lollipops!"
    • "Pickles!"
    • "Anything can happen in my world."
  11. Carys Mozart's first appearance from the episode "A New Way to Play" is great and very beautiful. Her character which exclusively appeared in the second season had her voice earning comparisons with that of Peppa Pig (because of their age which is 4 years old), who is more popular these days, and unlike Chloe she tends to promote bad behavior.
  12. The theme song is outstanding: "Let's play Dress Up in Chloe's Closet, put a costume today in Chloe's Closet? Let's look inside and we'll see.....In Chloe's closet there's a mystery!"
  13. It received great foreign dubs (that could match or exceed the original), like the Latin America dub and the Dutch dub.
  14. The episodes look very good such as Bump in the Night, The Color Pink, Do Little, Do Big, Stay On Your Toes, Follow The Brick Castle's Road, Catch of the Day, and Konichiwa Chloe!.
  15. The show teaches some good math skill and problem solving adventures and lessons in almost all the episodes, which includes:
    • "Bump in the Night", which teaches kids how to clean up the stars and shine them again.
    • "The Color Pink", which teaches kids how to paint the wall their favorite color.
    • "Super Best Friends", which teaches kids how to stop the hiccups by counting to 10 or drinking some water.
    • "Do Little, Do Big", which teaches kids how to make animals feel better.
    • "On The Right Track", which teaches kids how to restore the train and ride and connect the train cars again.
    • "Stay On Your Toes", which teaches kids how to correct the sequence for the steps of a ballet dance and decipher the repeated pattern of the steps.
    • "Catch of the Day", which teaches kids how to help the fish find their homes.
    • "Konichiwa Chloe!", which teaches kids how to say hello in Japanese and speak Japanese.
    • "A Princess Party", which teaches kids how to help someone throw the best birthday ever.
  16. It's one of the few preschool shows that also appeals to anyone outside the target demographic very well in a cute way.
  17. Lots of supercute written episodes.
  18. There are a lot of positive messages, like when Chloe sings "Dress up is a game we play. Each kind and every single day, We can be most anything, Fairy, Doctor, Dancer, or King. It's another dress-up day. It's our favorite game to play!" to the tune of "Ah-vous dirai-je, Maman/Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
  19. Each character has his or her own attitude and personality traits, making for a nice characterization. James 'Jet' Horton is an example.
  20. Interesting and great iTunes release, just like Whisker Haven.
  21. The season one finale, "Pre-School Musical" is heartwarming to watch. To watch the episode, click here to get it on Amazon Prime Video.
  22. Outstanding and well-done songs and incredible and colorful title cards that are very appealing to look at. Even the sound effects are surprisingly realistic and impressive too!
  23. Super duper title cards, with the drawing versions of Chloe, Tara, Jet, and company appear in every title card where they can do something great and super cute things like fixing Hootie Hoo, saving the Carnival, sacking the blocks high up, going turtle fishing, flying from space, constructing a house for the 3 pigs' party, brushing teeth, creating wearable art dresses for the art contest, making friends of a variety of sea creatures, meeting a purple fish, help a dinosaur who plays baseball and more.
  24. Some of the dialogue from Chloe's parents sound clever or funny.
  25. "It's time to play dress-up!"
  26. The cover images for the Amazon Prime Video are look amazing and cute, just like Imagination Movers and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
  27. Daniella "Danny" Rylant is a love interest, as, like James "Jet" Horton, she is extremely tomboy and always likes to sing and dance with her friend, Chloe.
  28. The nursery rhymes are well-done songs such as:
    • Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star/Ah-vous dirai-je, Maman ('Bump in the Night')
    • If You're Happy and You Know It ('The Color Pink', 'Easy as Cake', 'Big Shoes to Fill', 'Smoke Alarmed', 'Try Away Home', 'Old Rabbit, New Tricks', 'The High Flying Four')
    • Did You Ever See A Lassie?/Oh du lieber Augustin ('Little Big Boy', 'Stay on Your Toes')
    • Pop Goes the Weasel ('Purple Like Me', 'Super Best Friends', 'Icing Escapades', 'To Borrow, To Borrow', 'The Great Banana Caper')
    • Down By The Station ('On the Right Track', 'Leave it to the Beavers')
    • Ten Little Indians ('Rainbow Riddle', 'For Love of Monet', 'Hairy Tale', 'Crowing Up')
    • Brahms' Lullaby
  29. Their voice actors feel like an upgrade from the second season. Oisín Kearns feels like Jet's updated voice is thought of to be, especially Eleanor Webster who does a good job playing Chloe in both seasons, and is seen as a complete compared to Ni Hao, Kai-Lan by many viewers.
  30. Super-awesome, totally amazing amounts of animal placement, such as Polar Bears, Snakes et al.
  31. Almost all of the vehicles in the show look really cool to look at.
  32. Good Ending: In the final episode "A Princess Party", Chloe, Carys, and Tara help a Queen have the best birthday party ever, which was a great way to end the supercute girl-themed series.

Bad Qualities

  1. The series mostly features songs sung to the tune of nursery rhymes (except in some episodes like "Sing a Special Song" wherein an original song is sung).
  2. The animation can look bland and cheap since it is flash-animated which can be dated back by the year 2002 (the time when its creator Sarah Finn was pregnant with her eldest daughter which was the inspiration for the series).
  3. Incorrect Release: On the Amazon Prime Video, Season 2 episodes are out of order, it was supposed to be in the correct order, not mixed-up episodes, yes, really.
  4. Tara (depending on your view) can be unlikeable at times.
  5. Tara will never say "crumbs" on season 2 and she will able say "pickles" a lot in later episodes.
  6. "Grouchy Pandas, Giggling Dragon" and "No Body's Perfect" are considered to be the weakest episodes of the show.
