Choudenshi Bioman (超電子バイオマン Chōdenshi Baioman, translated into English as Super Electron Bioman) is the eighth Super Sentai series. Produced by Toei Company, it was aired on TV Asahi from February 4, 1984 to January 26, 1985, with a total of 51 episodes.

Why It Rocks

  1. This was the first time Super Sentai tried tackling a Science Fiction theme, a concept that was somewhat experimented on in Kagaku Sentai Dynaman, however that concept was done much better here as it felt more emphasized
  2. Most of the Biomen are pretty decent characters, with each having their own distinct character traits
    • Shirou Gou/Red 1 is a very noble leader who has the ability to communicate with animals, making him feel like a prototype Kakeru Shishi/GaoRed.
    • Shingo Takasugi/Green 2 is a very tough, but lovable Green Ranger who spawned the infamous "GREEN TWO!" meme
    • Jun Yabuki/Yellow 4 II is a very skilled archer and was a much needed replacement for the original Yellow 4.
    • Hikaru Katsuragi/Pink 5 is a lighthearted/fun Pink Ranger who has great chemistry with Jun.
  3. While not perfect within it's execution, it was one of the first sentai seasons to focus more within it's story rather than being a MOTW show.
  4. The Neo Gear Empire are very unique amongst Sentai villains. It's nice to see the generals themselves go out and cause a threat rather than just sit around sending out monsters until the very end of the show
  5. The suit designs were very decent for the Showa Era, being the first ones to have light up helmets and circuitry on their chests.
  6. Their mecha, Denshi Gattai Bio Robo, is awesome, having a sleek black design, nice looking cockpits, and a badass sword.
  7. The opening is very dramatic and catchy, making it one of the most memorable ending themes.
  8. To top it all off, this was the first season to give us a prototype Sixth/Evil Ranger with Magne Warrior

Bad Qualities

  1. The ending theme is not that great, and is rather subpar for a sentai show.
  2. There are some unlikable characters such as Ryuuta Nanbara/Blue Three and Mika Koizumi/Yellow 4 (I)
    • Hikaru tends to be unlikeable at times, as in some instances she could be seen as a damsel in distress.
  3. Peebo may be one of the worst mentors in the franchise, as he just acts as a whinier prototype to Alpha 5 from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
  4. Some of the acting and episodes can be pretty bland at times.
  5. While good, the next season Dengeki Sentai Changeman did a lot of this show's good qualities so much better.
