Choujuu Sentai Liveman (超獣戦隊ライブマン Chōjū Sentai Raibuman, translated into English as Super Beast Squadron Liveman) was the 12th season of the Super Sentai series. It was produced by Toei Company and aired on TV Asahi from February 27, 1988 to February 18, 1989. with a total of 49 epiosdes

Why It Rocks

  1. This season introduces the following firsts which have been a trend in the super sentai franchise (whether occasionally or yearly).
    • The first female blue ranger (Megumi Misaki/Blue Dolphin).
    • The first to feature both a Black Ranger and a Green Ranger in the core team as opposed to interchanging with one or another.
    • The first sentai season to feature a super fusion robo (Super Live Robo)
    • The first Yellow second-in-command (Joh Ohara/Yellow Lion)
  2. The Armed Brain Army Volt is a very intimidating villain group.
  3. The fight scenes are fantastic.
  4. The suit designs are very simplistic but Great looking at the same time.
  5. Yuusuke and Tetsuya's rivalry with Kemp is really entertaining to watch.
  6. The Giga Volt arc was Fantastic, as it introduces the new members of the Livemen (Tetsuya Yano/Black Bison & Jun'ichi Aikawa/Green Sai, despite the two being bland characters).
  7. Great Professor Bias is probably the most intimidating villain in the Sentai franchise, as he only uses his Generals as part of a cheat death in order to live for centuries or even millenniums.
  8. The 9-Part endgame arc is Beyond Amazing as it was filled with so many plot twists that was greatly executed, such as the truth behind Guildos and Butchy who where just both scrap metal created to serve Bias himself. and this arc also featured the redemptions of the Volt Generals (Mazenda, Ashura, And Kemp).
  9. This show was a remarkable way to end the Showa era.

Bad Qualities

  1. The show mainly dipped in quality once Tetsuya and Jun'ichi were introduced as they never had any proper development.
    • Speaking of Tetsuya he is probably the most forgettable black sentai ranger to exist, and is the most wasted character in the show as he had a lot of potential, what's even worse is he wasn't even mentioned in the 5th episode by his younger brother (Takeshi).
    • And Jun'ichi is just the typical happy goofball with probably the most disgusting focus episode to exist in the showa era.
  2. It is not absent to awful episodes such as the 31st Episode.
  3. The mecha fights could be repetitive sometimes.
  4. Tetsuya Yano/Black Bison Never Had a Solo Henshin Sequence, Despite Jun'ichi Aikawa/Green Sai having a Solo Henshin, He never had 3D Model Henshin Sequence. (Same goes for Tetsuya).
  5. While this season was good, the Next Season wasn't well received at all.
  6. Even though this season it saved the Super Sentai franchise, it didn't even have a movie.
