Dog Bites Bear is the 11th episode of the 16th season of Family Guy, and the 300th episode overall.

Brian and Stewie’s friendship is put to the test when Brian destroys Rupert, and the two head to Vermont Mountain to spread his remains. Meanwhile, Peter refuses to wash his hand when the iconic Boo Berry touches his hand.

Why It Rocks

  1. The emotionally beautiful scene where Brian and Stewie hold a ceremony for Rupert, tell him he meant a lot, and start singing for him.
  2. Funny jokes/moments, such as Danny Devito being happy about what Family Guy says about him, or Brian getting punched in the face by Dikembe Mutombo.
    • "It's a BABY!"
  3. The conflict with Stewie and Brian, while mean-spirited, is entertaining for the most part and has the feeling of a Road To episode.
  4. Brian is (surprisingly) likable in this episode, as he helps Stewie with a broken leg get to the Vermont mountain and tries to calm him down about Rupert, and had a good reason to destroy him.
  5. A heartwarming ending where Brian gets a duplicate Rupert and makes Stewie extremely happy, while the ghost of the destroyed Rupert rides cars in the sky.

Bad Qualities

  1. While good, the subplot with Peter refusing to wash his hand is weaker compared to the main story.
  2. While Brian is likeable, He chewed Rupert to pieces in a drunk state all because he was sick and tired of Stewie treating Rupert like a real person.
  3. Like with most modern Family Guy episodes, a joke is explained before it happens. In this case, it’s the “middle-aged woman boobs-falling-off-to-the-side sleep” joke.

Dog Bites Bear received a 7.5 on IMDB, and received positive reviews[1], PhantomStrider found this episode to be the greatest of the modern Family Guy episodes.[2]
