Everybody Hates Chris is an American period sitcom that is based on the troubled teenage experiences of comedian Chris Rock during the 1980s. The show is set between 1982 and 1987, although Rock himself was a teenager between 1978 and 1984, having been born in 1965. The show's parodies the hit CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. The show aired for four seasons from 2005 to 2009 on UPN for its first season, and later The CW for the remaining three seasons.
Why It Rocks
Memorable characters like Chris, Drew, Tonya, Rochelle, Julius, Greg, Uncle Michael, Uncle Ryan, Mr. Omar, Tasha, Risky, Kill Moves, Doc, Jerome, Malvo and many others.
Chris Rock's narration is very funny and memorable.
Julius arguing about the prices of the products is the one of the best lines of the series.
Awesome, hilarious and memorable quotes like: "I don't need this, my man has two jobs!", "Boy, you so crazy", "It wasn't me", "Tragic", "Little dude across the street", "BIG MAN!!!" and the famous (and the most memorable) one: "You think I'm playing!?!?"
Great and memorable acting from the cast.
This is one of the actual good sitcoms that doesn't have laugh track, despite being a multi-camera set.
The sitcom is very famous in Brazil and has many fans there.
Guest stars in some episodes, like Whoopi Goldberg portraying Tasha's grandma.
Give us some good holiday-themed episodes, like Valentine's Day, Halloween, two Christmas episodes, Father's Day, Thanksgiving, Kwanzaa, New Year's Eve and Mother's Day.
It tackles some issues as how his best friend can help in his problems, don't making fake promises, teaming up with his worst enemy in a school trip, trying to save his father's Playboy magazine from the vice principal, when picked from the toolbox, dealing his grandpa's death, a lasagna with a hidden marijuana and more.
Chris' teacher, Mrs. Morello is very obsessed with black people, like referring black people as Chris's people (which considering Chris is already a black person), calling Chris with racist names like Chocolate in Season 4, which is very strange.
In fact, there's also bad characters in the series like Keshia (due of she liking more Drew than Chris, although Drew is not interested in her) and Caruso (for bullying Chris and Greg and also calling Chris with racist names).
Some mean spirited moments.
Tonya is a spoiled brat sometimes.
Chris is unjustly bullied at Corleone Junior High School, mostly from Caruso, because of the fact that he is the only black student from the middle school, luckly this changed in Season 4 when Chris went to a high school with equal black and white kids.
The episode "Everybody Hates Lasagna" was banned in Brazil (precisely on RecordTV, but however this episode normally airs on cable television, previously on TBS and currently on Comedy Central), due to the references of marijuana and marijuana is both illegal and criminalized in Brazil, but there is no prison sentence for personal use since 2006.
The series ended on a cliffhanger, when Rochelle sees Chris' G.E.D. score, if Chris passed or not. Now to be fair, there's a theory says when Julius parks his truck, the camera gives a close-up, of the 735 painted in the truck, which is the real Chris' G.E.D. grade and the G.E.D. grade follows 800, but this score is good enough for him to pass.
Some poorly-aged anachorisms like 2000s clothing in the 1980s and modern versions of 1980s brands and products.
