"Goodbling and the Hip-Hop-opatamus" is the second half of the eleventh episode in the fifth season of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.

Plot

At a school fair, Grim's scythe accidentally transforms the dull Principal Goodvibes and his hippopotamus into gangster rappers, Goodvibes now calling himself Principal Goodbling. In the following, Goodbling changes the entire school to be more hip-hop-oriented, to the annoyance of Mandy. Although initially Grim likes the new style of the school principal, he later thinks Goodbling is just a poseur and goes to talk to him, but Goodbling attacks with yo-mama jokes.

Why It Rocks

  1. Principal Goodvibes' toy collection looks pretty cool and interesting. We even get to see plushies of Bubbles and Buttercup from the Original Powerpuff Girls along with a white "I Love PPG" t-shirt!
  2. Lots of funny moments, such as Irwin's quote "you're going down, Reaper!" before throwing the ball at him and then his glasses come off, along with a montage of Grim getting eaten by the alligators and the announcement Goodvibes (or "Goodbling") makes when becoming a gangsta rapper and Billy talking the same way to Irwin. The most funniest moment is the "Joe Mama" joke Goodbling says to Grim at the principal's office, and there's so much more!
  3. The plot is very interesting and a nice change to the show's tone, as it has Principal Goodvibes and his pet hippo being transformed into a gangsta rapper by Grim's scythe when he wanted a bit of change in the school fair.
    • Speaking of which, Goodvibes and his pet hippo becoming a gangsta rappers is well executed here, and mostly avoids pandering to the kids of the 1990's. (Depending on your view). Their clothes also look cool and rapper-oriented, and the hippo having a "thug life" tattoo on his arm is pretty neat and impressive.
  4. The school's redesign in hip-hop form looks well done and there's even classes where you spray graffiti on the walls (despite being illegal in real life).
  5. Grim, Billy, Mandy and the rest are still likable characters, with Goodbling and his hippo having a truckload of funny moments/quotes as mentioned above, Irwin having some as well, Grim having a point on wanting to get rid of Goodbling's new hip-hop school style, along with Irwin's granny, and Mandy and Billy don't show their flanderization here and are their former selves from the first 4 seasons.
  6. The "Joe Mama" rap battle Goodbling and Irwin's granny have is extremely hilarious to watch.
  7. Decent Ending: Irwin's granny and Goodbling's rap battle causes him and his hippo to turn back into Principal Goodvibes and just another basic hippo, respectively and Grim telling Goodvibes that he wasn't cool, while Irwin says a lot of random words to his granny but gets told off, along with his granny herself. Then, when Billy asks Grim if the hip-hop is gone forever, he says "yes" and then they go home - ending it off with Billy telling a "Joe Mama" joke to Grim.

Bad Qualities

  1. Depending on your view, the hip-hop and rapping tone used throughout the episode may be pandering to 90's kids to some viewers, and spraying graffiti on walls is a serious crime in real life, though not as bad as "Quack Pack".
  2. A bit of gross-out humor here, such as Irwin's granny spitting something lime onto her dunking ball, which she actually used to throw!
