Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger is the 35th season of the Super Sentai franchise, celebrating the 35th anniversary of the franchise as well. It ran from February 13, 2011 - February 19, 2012. It succeeded Tensou Sentai Goseiger and was succeeded by Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters.

Why It Rocks

1. The Gokaigers morph into several past Super Sentai Rangers, which really works for an anniversary season of Super Sentai. Even their respective seasons' theme song played out during their Gokai Changes.
2. The Gokaigers are very likable and they have very distinct personalities and motives:
   • Captain Marvelous (GokaiRed) being the leader and the most serious and reckless of the team.
   • Joe Gibken (GokaiBlue) being the brains and the most sympathetic of the team.
   • Luka Millfy (GokaiYellow) being the most adventurous, cute, and greedy of the team.
   • Don Dogoier (GokaiGreen) being the most incompetent and cowardly of the team.
   • Ahim De Famille (GokaiPink) being the friendliest and the calmest of the team.
   • And Gai Ikari (GokaiSilver) being the only earthling and the comic-relief of the team.
3. It is so far, the only Sentai season that uses pirates as a theme.
4. Emperor Ackdos Gill and Basco Ta Jolokia are super intimidating threats to the Gokaigers.
5. The Gokaigers have very interesting backstories, especially Gai.
6. Spawned several Ranger Key toy sets for the fans to collect, and even Bandai released more Ranger Keys (even Metal Heroes) after the show's run until Zyuohger or the upcoming Zenkaiger.
7. They actually team up with Tensou Sentai Goseiger and Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters.
8. Some episodes even bring back some actual past Sentai rangers! When the ranger reveals which ranger he is, a "Legend Shift" occurs where a brief image of the ranger shows. This shows that a lot of thought went into the creators to execute the anniversary season. Notable examples include:
   • Kai Ozu (MagiRed) from Mahou Sentai Magiranger.
   • Banban Akaza (DekaRed) from Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger.
   • Jan Kandou (GekiRed) from Juken Sentai Gekiranger.
   • Kaoru Shiba (Princess ShinkenRed) from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger.
   • Kyosuke Jinnai (RedRacer) from Gekisou Sentai Carranger.
   • Satoru Akashi (BoukenRed) from GoGo Sentai Boukenger.
   • Matsuri Tatsumi (GoPink) from Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive.
   • Gai Yuki (Black Condor) from Choujin Sentai Jetman.
   • Yukito Sanjou (AbareBlue) from Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger.
   • Joh Ohara (Yellow Lion) from Choujuu Sentai Liveman.
   • Ryo (Ryuranger) from Gosei Sentai Dairanger.
   • Sosuke Esumi (Go-On Red) from Engine Sentai Go-Onger.
   • Domon (TimeYellow) from Mirai Sentai Timeranger.
   • Shirou Akebono (Battle Kenya) from Battle Fever J.
   • Tsuruhime (NinjaWhite) from Ninja Sentai Kakuranger.
   • Dai (Green Flash) from Choushinsei Flashman.
   • Shou Hayate (ChangeGriffon/Black Ranger) from Dengeki Sentai Changeman.
   • Takayuki Hiba (VulEagle (II)/Red Ranger) from Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan.
   • & Sharma Tribe Knight Goushi (MammothRanger/Black Ranger) from Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger.
9. It shows both aired alongside the well-received Kamen Rider OOO and Kamen Rider Fourze.
10. The finale was AMAZING, as the Gokaigers returned their Rangers Keys Powers to the actual past Sentai Rangers in order to restore their powers.

Bad Qualities

1. Most of this season's villains are kind of bland.
2. A video game based on this was terrible and missing several past Sentai Rangers.
3. Its adaptation was trying hard to celebrate Power Rangers' 20th anniversary.
4. They changed Furaimaru from Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger from blue to green.
5. Some of the legend shifts were from terrible Sentai seasons. Thankfully, these were tolerable characters. They include:
   • Remi Hoshikawa (FiveYellow) from Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman
   • Akira (Blue Mask) from Hikari Sentai Maskman
   • Goro Hoshino (OhRed) from Chouriki Sentai Ohranger
   • Hyuuga (Black Knight II) from Seijuu Sentai Gingaman (even if Ryouma/GingaRed was present) &
   • Kakeru Shishi (GaoRed) from Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger.
6. They made tributes to Terrible Sentai seasons for some episodes.
