Kamen Rider (仮面ライダーシリーズ Kamen Raidā Shirīzu, translated as Masked Rider Series) is a metaseries/media mix of tokusatsu television programs and films, and manga, created by manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori. The Kamen Rider media generally features a motorcycle-riding superhero with an insect motif who fights supervillains, often known as Kaijin (怪人). The franchise began in 1971 with the original Kamen Rider series, which followed college student Takeshi Hongo and his quest to defeat the world-conquering Shocker organization. The popularity of the series has grown, with the original series spawning television and film sequels, and launched the Second Kaiju Boom (also known as the Henshin Boom) on Japanese television during the early 1970s, impacting the superhero and action-adventure genres in Japan.

Why It Rocks

  1. It's one of the longest-running TV show series in Japan, alongside Super Sentai, Sazae-san, Ultra Series, and Doraemon.
  2. Every season has a different motif and concept.
  3. The acting, voice acting, and storytelling are great.
  4. The fighting scenes are awesome, especially during recent seasons.
  5. It mixes darker and serious tones with lighthearted and comedic moments in a good way, without forcing it in the plot.
  6. It usually has very successful toy sales.
  7. Each season is good, entertaining and full of action, such as the original Kamen Rider series, Kamen Rider V3, Kamen Rider X, Kamen Rider Super-1, Kamen Rider Black, Kamen Rider Kuuga, Kamen Rider Agito, Kamen Rider Ryuki, Kamen Rider Blade, Kamen Rider Hibiki , Kamen Rider Kabuto, Kamen Rider Den-O, Kamen Rider Kiva (Depending on your point of view.), Kamen Rider W, Kamen Rider OOO, Kamen Rider Fourze, Kamen Rider Wizard, Kamen Rider Gaim, Kamen Rider Drive, Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, Kamen Rider Build, Kamen Rider Zi-O (Depending on your point of view.), and Kamen Rider Zero-One, and Kamen Rider Revice (Depending on your point of view).
  8. Very good writing from well known Tokusatsu writers like Toshiki Inoue.
  9. It spawned 2 American adaptions, known as Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight (which is an adaptation of Kamen Rider Ryuki) and Saban's Masked Rider (which is an adaptation of Kamen Rider Black RX).
  10. The summer movies (which started with Kamen Rider Agito: Project G4) and the crossover movies are usually decent or good.
  11. It had team-ups with Super Sentai, another awesome tokusatsu series.

Bad Qualities

  1. There are some bad or mediocre seasons such as Kamen Rider Amazon Kamen Rider Stronger, Kamen Rider (1979 TV Series) Kamen Rider Black RX, Kamen Rider Agito, Kamen Rider 555, Kamen Rider Kiva (Depending on your point of view.), Kamen Rider Decade, Kamen Rider Wizard, Kamen Rider Ghost, Kamen Rider Zi-O (Depending on your point of view.), and Kamen Rider Saber
  2. The promos for the seasons can be a little overhyped.
