Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (小林さんちのメイドラゴン Kobayashi-san Chi no Meidoragon) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Cool-Kyou Shinja. The series began serialization in Futabasha's Monthly Action magazine in May 2013, and is licensed in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment. A spin-off manga by Mitsuhiro Kimura began serialization in Monthly Action in December 2016. An anime television series produced by Kyoto Animation aired in Japan between January and April 2017.

Plot

As the office worker Kobayashi gets ready for work, she is greeted by a large dragon staring into her eyes from across the balcony. The dragon immediately transforms into a young humanoid in a maid outfit, and introduces herself as Tohru. It turns out that during a drunken excursion to the mountains the day before, Kobayashi had encountered the dragon, who claims to have come from another world. Having no place to stay, Kobayashi had offered to let the dragon stay at her home; Tohru decided to repay her kindness by working as her personal maid. Despite initial reluctance, a mix of guilt and Tohru's dragon abilities convinces Kobayashi to accept her. Despite being efficient at housework, Tohru's unorthodox methods of housekeeping often end up scaring Kobayashi and bringing more trouble than help. Additionally, Tohru's presence attracts other mythical beings to her new home.

Why It Rocks

  1. It came up with a good premise, a female dragon named Tohru becoming a maid to an average joe named Kobayashi, as a thank you for saving her.
  2. Awesome funny moments and humors.
  3. Good animation for the anime adaptation of the manga.
  4. Cool visuals.
  5. Absolutely cute and likable characters with good monster and human designs.
  6. Even the interactions between the dragons and humans are enjoyable.

Bad Qualities

  1. Funimation has added in unnecessary political agenda in the dub instead of following what the original Japanese voice acting did. This problem was caused due to Jamie Marchi changing the lines at her request.
  2. Unlikeable characters like the teenage boys playing soccer ball, and Kobayashi's manager.
  3. The meme quote "Don't lewd the loli dragon" is rather hypocritical because Tohru admitted to Miss Kobayashi that Tohru and Kanna gave each other tongue baths, in which Miss Kobayashi finds it gross.
  4. The logic of meeting and saving a dragon while drunk can be seen as stupid and nonsensical to even anime fans.
  5. The dragons do not try to learn to act human, which can make the perverted gags tiring and trying too hard to shock anime fans, rather than be entertaining.
  6. It has been considered to be the best anime ever made solely because of the dragons, which completely ignores the quality of the characters and story.

I have seen a couple episodes, and it's a good series. But I will only stick with the original Japanese dub of that show because of the one bad quality that was put up there because Jamie Marchi thought "oh ho ho, we'll add in political agenda to the English dub because fuck the Japanese actors, we're Funimation and we don't give a shit".

I kinda have a problem with the plot. Kobayashi falling in love with a dragon is zoophilia, is it not? Lucoa (a 100,000,000,000,000,000, year old dragon) falling in love with a ten year old human boy, which is pedophilia and zoophilia.

can that be added to the Bad Qualities section or not?
