Monster Force is a 13-episode animated television series created in 1994 by Universal Cartoon Studios and Canadian studio Lacewood Productions.

The story is set in approximately 2020 and centers on a group of teenagers who, with help of high tech weaponry, fight off against classic Universal Monsters and spiritual beings threatening humanity. Some of the crew have personal vendettas (e.g., one has the "curse of the Wolfman" that has been handed down through generations and another had a family member taken away from her by Dracula), while others fight for mankind out of a sense of altruism.

Why It Rocks

  1. The idea of a using classic monsters in a futuristic setting and even a team of heroes stopping monsters is very awesome and interesting.
  2. The animation is very solid and neat even for 1994 standards, and has aged very well.
  3. Decent voice acting.
  4. Amazing character designs.
  5. Great soundtrack.
  6. Many likeable characters such as Dr. Reed Crawley, Luke Talbot, Tripp, Lance, Shelley and even Frankenstein. Speaking of Frankenstein, he actually has a more friendlier side than the evil side when he was created by Victor Frankenstein.
  7. The Creatures of the Night are also good as well such as Dracula, the Creature from the Black Lagoon (the Creature), HoTep (The Mommy), Niles (the werewolf), and the Bride.
  8. Great-to-decent storylines.
  9. The intro is awesome, upbeat, and catchy itself, despite being scary and partially weird.
  10. Some heartwarming moments.
  11. Has some good morals, such as not killing living animals such as werewolves as seen in the episode, "Stalking the Beast".
  12. The show does a good job giving us glimpses of the past of some characters from the Universal Monsters series.
  13. The Russian dub is pretty decent.

Bad Qualities

  1. Some of the character design don't resemble their other form such as the Dracula who was yellow/blonde skin and navy blue hair then his original counterpart.
  2. Despite having decent ratings on iMDB and Kinopoisk, the show was not renewed for a second season due to low ratings, resulting an unresolved cliffhanger.

  • The series was very popular in Russia and Ukraine.
    • Also, the titles of the series in the two countries are "Чудовищная Сила" (Russia) and "Сила Чудовиськ" (Ukraine).
  • This along with Problem Child (Season 2), The Savage Dragon, and Fievel's American Tails were co-produced with Canada.
  • For unknown reasons their are only 7 episodes in the DVD, but not 13 in the DVD set.
  • This series is also considered lost media, meaning that the original-language (English) version is partially found only having 9 episodes. The Russian version has the complete set of episodes, and the Ukrainian version is entirely lost, meaning that according to Wikipedia, it aired on ICTV - a Ukrainian channel. See here for details.
