Ninjala (Japanese: ニンジャラ), also known as Ninjala 2D Cartoon Anime is a short-lived Japanese 2020 animated web series that is based on the game of the same name. It is on the show's official YouTube channel. Each episode tells the story of an individual ninja and how they come across the World Ninja Association. It was previously followed by a CGI animated pilot before the series shifted it's focus to 2D animation.

Bloodline of the Shinobi

A young basketball player at heart, Van sees his father fighting a ninja in the garage of his own home. His father gives him ninja gum to eat so he can join him. Van later meets Genryusai at the hospital where his father is and vows to become a true ninja as he joins the WNA.

A Secret Eye

Lucy has hidden shinobi powers that she awakes and accidentally scares her friends with it. At a new school, Lucy meets a girl named Chloe and they become close friends. Lucy saves her using her powers to save Chloe from getting hit by a car. She then gets sent to the WNA after encouragement from her parents.

A Beautiful Intruder

Jane, a hacker is assigned to get top secret data from the WNA for the WNA Intelligence Division. It's soon discovered everything from the secret project has gone, including Ron. When she visits the WNA lab, she discovers left over ninja gum and starts to chew it which turns her into a child. Jane fights her boss and finds Ron, who advises her they join Ninjala together.

The Shinobi Village

Kappei sees his grandfather distressed after joining the Requiem Festival in Oedo. The next day, they are visited by a group of ninjas, who try their best to fight them. His grandfather takes him to a secret shrine where Gumchi is found, a cute small alien lifeform who arrived on earth over 100 years ago. The ninjas try to take him but Kappei stops them. Kappei then goes to Komerika for training with Gumchi.

You're the Star!

News has spread that a young orphan girl named Emma has been stopping crime in a city with her dance moves. Emma destines to be famous but gets nervous during an audition. However, she wins the audition and the audience cheers for her. Emma realises she is also a ninja too, so she accepts the offer and joins the WNA.

Why It Rocks

  1. It reveals more lore to the storyline behind the video game it was based on in a unique way.
  2. All the ninjas are very likeable characters.
    • Van is a young basketball player who wants to fulfil his dreams.
    • Lucy is a nervous young girl who has a big secret.
    • Jane is a hacker who loves candy.
    • Kappei is an innocent young ninja.
    • Emma is a ninja who is also a dancer too.
  3. The animation is brilliant to look at, especially in the action sequences in the Van and Kappei episodes.
  4. The ending theme song, a house remix of Ninja Re Bang Bang by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu remixed by Steve Aoki is very catchy.
  5. Excellent voice acting talents throughout each episode!
  6. It doesn't have a main focus plot as each episode focuses on an individual character based on their own plots, which is very experimental.

Bad Qualities

  1. The nightmare Van has in the first episode is very dark and scary for children.
  2. Lucy can be unlikeable sometimes to her friends, especially with her shinobi powers.

  • As said before, this series is available to watch on YouTube on the official Ninjala YouTube channel along with the CGI Pilot.
  • Also, the rumor to make a CGI animated short has planning after making CGI Pilot, but scrapped into 2d anime style, while still pretty good to look at.
