Oscar and Friends is a New Zealander children's stop motion animated TV series that aired for 26 episodes from 1995 to 1996.
Plot
The series is about a 7-year-old boy named Oscar, who, with his imaginary friends, goes from adventure to adventure. In this fantasy life of his, Bugsy, a bright green, bug-eyed mischievous coward, and Doris, a daring, eccentric girl and Oscar's confidante, are there to rescue him in danger and lend a hand.
Why It Rocks
- Very solid animation especially considering it is the first ever stop motion series to be produced in New Zealand.
- Unique visual style in that it combines stop motion characters and certain objects with hand drawn backgrounds.
- Likeable characters such as the title character, Bugsy, and Doris.
- Highly imaginative plots.
- It is very entertaining throughout despite the episodes lasting only 5 minutes.
- Memorable quotes such as "Yikes!", "Choice!" and "Holy macaroni!".
- It contains numerous cultural references to New Zealand which would help teach outsiders about the country.
- Catchy theme song.
- Awesome villains such as the Cowboy gang and the Pirate Queen and her crew.
Bad Qualities
- Bugsy looks somewhat derivative of Mr. Bumpy from Bump in the Night.
