Pokémon Generations is a Japanese animated short series based by the video game franchise of the same name. It was released on YouTube by The Pokémon Company channel.

Each episode focus on a event that happened during the main games' story (from Kanto to Kalos), but it focus on the secondary characters of the games. Each three episodes is focused on a region/generation.

Why It Rocks

  1. Like the main anime series, this show is very faithful of the source material.
  2. The animation is great, especially during the Pokémon battles, which are more detailed and incredible to watch.
  3. The characters in this animation act exactly like their game counterparts, especially the villains, who were given much more personality and better characterization than the main anime version, like Giovanni, Ghetsis and Lysandre.
  4. The design of the Pokémon and the characters are great, giving them a more realistic anime-style version of them, unlike the main series, which are more cartoony.
  5. A lot of memorable scenes like the battle between Ghetsis and N in episode 15, or AZ's reunion with his Floette in episode 18.
  6. Some of the main protagonists of the games appear as cameos in some episodes, which are Red, Ethan, Brendan and Hilbert.
  7. It has a great soundtrack, that are remixed versions of the main games soundtrack.
  8. You can watch the series in other languages besides English and Japanese, like Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and German, in their respective YouTube channels.

Bad Qualities

  1. It is very short, only having 18 episodes and each one has around 3 to 5 minutes of duration.
  2. The voice acting is mediocre.
  3. The Pokémon don't say their species names like the main anime version, instead their cries consists of animal noises like the main games, which can bother some fans. Heck, even Pikachu doesn't have its iconic voice cry.
  4. Pikachu's design is very different from the main series and the games, and doesn't look like the mascot of the franchise we know and love, looking more like a Pichu with Pikachu's colors and appearance.
