Space Goofs (French title: Les Zinzins de l'Espace, or in the United Kingdom: Home to Rent) is a French animated series produced by Gaumont Multimedia, and Xilam for France 3 that first aired in 1997. It also debuted at the same year in Germany on ProSieben. It also aired, in Quebec, on Télétoon. In the UK, the 1st season premiered on Channel 4 and the 2nd season premiered under its original moniker on Nicktoons UK on 5 November 2005 at 9:30am. It also aired as part of the Fox Kids lineup on Fox in the United States.

The series also served as the basis of an adventure game titled Stupid Invaders.

Five extraterrestrials from the planet Zigma BCandyEtnoGorgeousStereo and Bud go on a picnic together in space. However, their spaceship crashes into an asteroid, and they fall to planet Earth. They realise that if any human finds out that they're aliens, they could be captured and experimented on, so they take shelter in a house for rent.

The aliens have two goals: Return to their home planet and chase anybody away who tries to establish themselves in the house.

To remain unknown from humans, they use a device called the SMTV that lets the aliens transform into almost any entity of their choosing. It often doesn't work on the first try, leading to some wacky transformations.

Why It Rocks

  1. Great animation, provided by Sunwoo and Big Star (the latter also worked in Xilam's Oggy and the Cockroaches) and looking like similar to Ren and Stimpy, which by the way, some of the people who worked in Ren and Stimpy also worked in this show, but only in Season 1, with the exception of Jim Gomez who worked in both seasons.
  2. Catchy theme song sung by Iggy Pop.
  3. Extremely interesting concept.
  4. Amazing voice acting with an English dub that provides the talents of Jeff Bennett, Charlie Adler, Maurice LaMarche, and Danny Mann.
  5. They are some pop culture references, with a example in one episode has a reference to Fantasia.
  6. Episodes have interesting plots.
  7. Heartwarming moments.
  8. Great and catchy soundtrack made by Hervé Lavandier and Ramon Pipin.
  9. Hilarious slapstick and jokes that are based on Looney Tunes gags.
  10. The main characters got to be submerged under the water of a washing machine in a Oggy and the Cockroaches episode called "Night Watchmen".

Bad Qualities

  1. Season 1's animation quality was sloppy and mediocre with characters being off model at times, though the art style did improve at Season 2.
  2. The voice actor for Bud (Jeff Bennett) was replaced in Season 2 by Jim Gomez, who and his voice is just mediocre at best.
  3. Candy became more of the series' butt monkey and is prone to being abused the most.
  4. Gorgious became more of a jerk in Season 2.
  5. Stereo Monovici wasn't that relevant despite being one of the main protagonists, which explained why he didn't appear in the majority of Season 2, with the main exceptions being Other World Champs and UFO, the latter being Stereo's final appearance overall
    • He could've been a lot more fleshed out.
  6. Season 2 would also include some racist stereotypes towards African-Americans, Chinese-Americans, Indian-Americans, and Native Americans.
