The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle is an animated comedy web series produced by Jay Ward Productions and DreamWorks Animation which is a reboot of the original The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends. Like The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show, the animation was outsourced by DHX Media Productions (now called WildBrain).

Rocky and Bullwinkle get themselves into harrowing situations but save the world every time Fearless Leader plots a way to "TAKE OVER ZE WORLD" but fails. Thus leading Boris and Natasha to get the moose and squirrel duo, but also fail (in most cases).

Why It Rocks

  1. Good grasp of the source material while using the elements of both the film The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle while learning from its flaws and the short film by DreamWorks.
  2. Characters designs are more consistent with the art style than the previous series, with the designs in general actually fixing the flaws and actually looking faithful to Jay Ward's art style. (Note: The character designs from the previous series often had unnecessary realistic textures and body proportions too angular and cartoonish.)
    • The backgrounds, in general, have also improved with more variety of colors to make them look clear.
  3. Each plot is 4 episodes long (minus the starting episodes and ending episodes), meaning you can experience a variety of themes and genres with each adventures (examples are the Pie plot, the alien plot, the monster plot, with the character designs fitting each theme and tone.
  4. The voice acting is pretty good, even having iconic voice actors like Tara Strong, Ben Diskin, Mario Lopez, Gordon Ramsay, and so on.
    • Tara Strong herself stayed faithful to June Foray's voice as Rocky after she tragically died of cancer after voicing Rocky for the last time a few months later.
  5. The show not only improved the careers at Amazon Prime Video and Jay Ward Productions but also helped Scott Fellows' career and his writing talent was actually used well unlike Supernoobs which used some mediocre teenage cliches and science fiction cliches.
  6. While not being a variety show, it still has the breaks, a couple of cameos involving other Jay Ward series, and humor about the two spies.
  7. Rocky and Bullwinkle began to have a more complex friendship with each other as the series progressed.
  8. In some cases, the show could even be considered addictive since it's hard to get bored with the plots.
  9. Gross-out humor is not excessive and only used sparingly as a neutral thing.

Bad Qualities

  1. Fearless Leader himself is a rather generic cliché villain with the motive to take over the world, even if he is shown more often than before.
    • In fact, this happens every time a different episode plot is set.
    • And if he is the leader of Pottsylvania, why couldn't he have gone with Boris and Natasha to actually observe them? Although, he is very funny most of the time.
  2. Some characters have been absent from the original series, such as Mr. Big, Chauncey, and Edgar.
  3. Due to a long hiatus, the status of Jay Ward Productions is currently unknown.
  4. The moon men (Gidney and Cloyd) were repurposed into a generic alien family for "The Dark Side of the Moose", as well as the son having a name based on the latter. They are devoid of speaking English and are only capable of having magical powers. The scrooch gun was also omitted from the show.
  5. While Director Peachfuzz is more competent and strict for a secret agent, she doesn't have the same charm and antics as Captain Peter "Wrong Way" Peachfuzz did in the original 1960s cartoon.
  6. Some of the elements from the original series, such as the Kerwood Derby and the Upsidaisium Mine, are completely non-existent in this series.
  7. There are some unfunny and rushed moments which do not last long.
  8. Only 26 episodes, and no additional segments featuring other characters like Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties, Aesop & Son, Fractured Fairy Tales, and The World of Commander McBragg (not counting The Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show since that segment already had it's own show).

  • Hector Peabody and Sherman made a brief cameo in the ninth episode of this series. Same for Old Bill in the thirteenth episode of the series.
  • "Weird Al" Yankovic was a personal fan of the original series.
  • This show was distributed as an Amazon Prime Video original, making it the first DreamWorks television show on a platform other than Netflix.
