The Copycats is the twelfth episode of Season 5 of The Amazing World of Gumball. It is the 168th episode overall.

Summary

Gumball and Darwin are confused when they meet Chi Chi and Ribbit, a pair of siblings that copy everything they do and say. They then find out this copycat family is making money online by imitating the Watterson family.

Why It Rocks

The Wattersons meet their doppelgangers.
  1. To start off, this episode was intentionally made to call out a Chinese rip-off off the show, Miracle Star in a very interesting way.
  2. The Wattersons and their doppelgängers are very entertaining in this episode.
  3. The song, "Be Your Own You", is very memorable.
  4. Excellent character and story-development.
  5. Many hilarious moments, such as how the Wattersons do very risky things to make their doppelgängers stop copying them only for it to backfire most of the time.
  6. It gives us a great moral about being original, not copying others and acting as yourself.
  7. The ending with Miracle Star getting cancelled are both satisfying for fans of TAWOG.
  8. The animation is seemingly at its best in this episode, especially during the speeding truck scene.
  9. "Get in your stupid car and don't come back!"

Bad Qualities

  1. The Wattersons almost caused the doppelgangers to kill themselves, which is inappropriate for kids.
  2. Miracle Star is parodied a bit too aggressive.

Trivia

  • This is the last episode when Jacob Hopkins and Terrell Ransom Jr. voiced Gumball and Darwin, when they were replaced by Nicolas Cantu and Donielle T. Hansley Jr.
