"Northwest Mansion Mystery" is the 10th episode of the second season of Gravity Falls.

Plot

The Northwests hire Dipper to deal with a ghost that threatens to disrupt their party but Dipper soon find out the Northwests's secret from that ghost. During the party, Candy, Grenda and Mabel fight over a boy they all want to date.

Why It Rocks

  1. Character development: Pacifica Northwest, the daughter of Preston and Priscilla Northwest, redeemed herself after she saw the truth about the Northwest family and because of Dipper Pines.
  2. Great animation as always.
  3. Funny subplot from Mabel and her friends.
  4. Preston got up his comeuppance when the gates are open all of the citizens of Gravity Falls were invited.
  5. The backstory of the Ghost of Northwest Manor is very dark, which means the creator, director and the writers were sending us the message and weren't afraid to talk about greed, betrayal, hard work and sacrifice.
  6. Thanks to this episode and the comic, Lost Legends, Dipcifica has finally canon which led most of the Gravity Falls fans to ship it.

The Only Bad Quality

  1. Sometimes it can get a little too dark, particularly when the two first encounter the ghost.

Reception

  • It holds a rating of 9.2/10 on IMDB, giving out positive reception. It is considered among the highest rated Gravity Falls episodes, along with Not What He Seems and the Weirdmageddon saga.

Trivia

  • The shortened version of the theme song debuted with this episode.
  • The timer on the laptop shows 21 hours to disaster, referencing the respective number of days between this episode and the next.
  • Since the defeat of the Blind Eye Society in "Society of the Blind Eye," the citizens of Gravity Falls finally begin to notice the paranormal activity in their town, as Dipper's defeat of a Giant Vampire Bat makes the headlines of the Gravity Falls Gossiper.
  • Matt Braly, the director of this episode, eventually made his own highly acclaimed animated series, Amphibia.
