What If... the Watcher Broke His Oath? is the season 1 finale of the Disney+ animated series What If...?.

After Infinite Ultron discovers the existence of the multiverse, Uatu is forced to break his oath of non-interference in order to stop him.

Why This Episode Rocks

  1. Great animation as usual.
  2. The voice acting from the characters is still remarkable.
  3. We finally see Uatu being forced to break his oath of non-interference in order to combat a multiversal threat.
  4. Like the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, Fantastic Four and Eternals, the Guardians of the Multiverse are a very powerful team.
  5. There are some funny moments here and there, such as Party Thor screaming his head off when Uatu grabs him.
  6. The battle between Infinite Ultron and the Guardians of the Multiverse is pretty badass!
  7. Plenty of memorable quotes, such as:
    • "I've got the shield; you got the sword."
      • "More like knives, but cute word-play."
    • "I got it, yeah, hang back with the uhh... giant baby-man cape dude."
    • "Not you, stark."
    • "You picked them?"
      • "Yep, I picked them."
    • "A wise sorcerer once told me that to face death is part of the plan."
    • "As Yondu said, never doubt sticky fingers!"
    • "I can destroy galaxies with a single thought... WHY. WON'T. YOU. DIE?!"
  8. Great Ending: The episode resolves the cliffhangers of many of the previous episodes, and sets up events to come.
    • Captain Carter and her universe's Natasha find the Hydra-Stomper armor, and it's heavily implied that Steve Rogers is still alive inside.
    • Star-Lord T'Challa defeats Ego the Living Planet and recruits Peter Quill into the Ravagers.
    • Strange Supreme redeems himself and is tasked by Uatu with keeping an eye on Arnim Zola and Erik Killmonger, who were sealed away in a pocket dimension with the Infinity Stones.
    • Most of the zombies from Episode 5 are destroyed by Infinite Ultron, meaning that the survivors of their world may have a chance of winning after all.
    • Party Thor reunites with his universe's Jane Foster.
    • Gamora manages to survive and reunites with her universe's Tony Stark.
    • Infinite Ultron is killed and Survivor Natasha is taken by Uatu to the universe where Yellowjacket murdered almost all of the Avengers candidates, helping Nick Fury defeat King Loki.
